SUMMARY:ICFO | ANNA SANPERA
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:PROFILE:&nbsp\;&nbsp\;&nbsp\;\nProf. Sanpera earned her PhD fro
m the Universitat Aut&ograve\;noma de Barcelona in 1992\, moving to the Un
iversity of Oxford in 1993 first as a research fellow and then as Fleming
fellowship. In 1996\, she moved to Saclay (Paris) as an European Post-Doct
oral Research Fellow\, and in 1998 was appointed research fellow at the Le
ibninz University\, in Hannover (Germany) where she did her habilitation a
nd became Professor Assistant. Since 2005 she is an ICREA Research Profess
or. Her research interests are quite interdisciplinary and range from quan
tum information theory\, to quantum gases and more recently condensed matt
er. Presently\, she is working in the interface between quantum informatio
n and condensed matter. She has stable collaborations with different resea
rch groups both at national and international level. Otherwise\, she is fo
nd of literature\, sports and children.\nABSTRACT:&nbsp\;\nThe study of Qu
antum Information Theory is strongly based on geometrical tools.&nbsp\; Co
 nvex sets and cones\, polytopes\, hyperplanes\, and distances&nbsp\; are\,
among others\, crucial concepts to characterize quantum states and quantu
m resources. Interestingly\, a similar approach can be used to study the s
et of local Hamiltonians describing many-body systems\, helping to elucida
te which is the entanglement capability of many-body Hamiltonians.&nbsp\;\
nIn this talk I will discuss the use of such geometrical approach to showc
ase some advances on the characterization of quantum states&nbsp\; and res
ources\, and their application in the symmetric subspace. I will present a
s well&nbsp\; some open problems and challenges in quantum information the
ory\, whose solution remains elusive after thirty years of intense researc
 h.\n&nbsp\;\n&nbsp\;\n&nbsp\;
