DESCRIPTION:Topological complex electromagnetic waves give access to nontri
 vial light-matter interactions and provide additional degrees of freedom f
 or information transfer. For instance\, topologically stable quasiparticle
 s or skyrmions have been demonstrated in quantum fields\, solid-state phys
 ics\, and magnetic materials\, but only recently observed in photonic fiel
 ds\, triggering fast expanding research across different spectral ranges a
 nd applications. Here I introduce an extended family of photonic skyrmions
  within a unified framework\, starting from fundamental theories to experi
 mental generation and topological control in spatiotemporally structured l
 ight. I will further highlight generalized classes of structured wave topo
 logical quasiparticles beyond optical skyrmions and outline their exotic t
 opological robust properties\, emerging applications\, future trends\, and
  open challenges.
