DESCRIPTION:The talk will discuss recent advances in photobase/photoacid re
 search. We will consider the photophyiscs of polymer-embedded photobases a
 nd photoacids to control the hydrophilicity/hydrophobicity balance and\, h
 ence\, the swelling behaviour of polymers and polymer nanoparticles. We wi
 ll show that polymer integration of well-known photoactive molecular build
 ing blocks not only changes the rate but also the yield oft he intermolecu
 lar proton transfer reaction. The second part of the presentation will rep
 ort on advances in synthesizing and spectroscopically characterizing trans
 ition metal compounds\, which act as photobases upon visible-light excitat
 ion. The discussion will start with Ru(II) complexes with photobasic ligan
 ds and continue to show how the concept can be transferred to Fe(II) compl
 exes.\n&nbsp\;
